Medicare Advantage Plans Coverage in 2022

A medicare advantage plan (also known as medicare part C or MA plans) is an alternative to the conventional means of getting your medicare parts A and B coverage. It includes a medicare advantage give-back plan that covers some or all of your Part B monthly premium.

Licensed private companies that offer medicare plans contract with the federal government to provide health insurance benefits to citizens who are eligible for Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans include Special Needs Plans, health maintenance organizations, private fee-for-service plans, and Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D).  Read more to understand the Medicare Advantage plans coverage.

How Do Medicare Advantage Plans Work?

When you enroll in a Medicare Part C or MA plan, Medicare pays a monthly premium coverage to the private company offering your medicare advantage plan. Every Medicare advantage plan has different out-of-pocket charges and principles guiding their services. These principles can change annually but you must be notified about any change before the next enrollment year.

Furthermore, the MA plan is required to provide the same health benefits as Medicare part A and Part B. The rights and protections (including the medicare advantage give back plans) are covered under the original medicare.

Who Can Enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan?

To qualify for the Medicare Advantage plan, you have to meet the following requirements.

    • You must be at least 65 years old and have Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance).

    • You must live lawfully in the U.S or be a citizen of the United States.

    • You must live in the area where the plan service is available.

Moreover, you can also join the Medicare advantage plan if you have either a pre-existing condition or end-stage renal disease.

How Do You Enroll in Medicare Advantage Plans?

When you're eligible for a medicare plan, you'll be given a medicare advantage 12-month trial period to choose the medicare advantage plan of your choice. After which you can proceed to search and compare your area's medicare health plans.

Once you've found the medicare plans that suit your needs, enroll via the following ways:

    • Use the search tool to find the available plans in your areas, and click on “Enroll”.

    • Login to the plan's website to see if you can join online or call the provider for the plan you want to join.

    • Get the enrollment form from the plan, fill it out and return it to the plan provider.

Conclusion

While the original medicare covers only Part A and Part B, it doesn't include other coverage like dental, hearing, vision, and drug prescription.

However, with the medicare advantage plan, you are not worried about paying for what the original medicare doesn't cover.
